PLAY-AT-HOME RAVENSBURGER ROUND-UP!

“The most important work you will ever do will be within the walls of your own home.” If there were ever a time that this Harold B. Lee spoke strongly to my heart, it’s now.  As a teacher and a mom of two little ones, I have always believed this to be true in my bones, but during this unusual time where so many of us around the world are literally living within the walls of our own homes, this weighs on me heavily!  If you’ve been following along for some time, you know that I am a big supporter of PLAY and what’s better than some games and activities that get the whole family involved?  I am going to share three different Ravensburger products that have been well loved in our home over the last few weeks!

BRIO BUILDER MOTOR SET

At first I didn’t know that BRIO was a part of the Ravensburger family, but it totally makes sense; both brands produce products that promote problem-solving skills, strategic mentalities, teamwork capabilities, and fine-motor growth.  Have you ever noticed how children so often want to emulate adults in the house “fixing things” - whether it be with a hammer and nail or a screw driver or a wrench?  We have some tools already that my two children (2 and 4) always like to play with, so when I discovered the BRIO Builder line, I knew we had to give it a try.  The suggested age for the set we got is 3+ and I will be honest, when I first opened the box and saw the inspiration manual, I was afraid I had no idea what to do—but once I put it in the hands of my children, my worries went away.  Sometimes we adults fear trying new things (or things we don’t feel confident or comfortable doing) so we tend to shy away from offering those options to our children, BUT what happens when we push those blocks away is magical—we can learn from our CHILDREN as they experience a new world… and that is priceless!  If you have a #looseparts or #toolbox lover or if you just want to give your kids a chance to experiment building some innovate stuff of their own, this set is for you!

DISNEY PRINCESS ENCHANTED CUPCAKE PARTY GAME

Raise your hand if you have a Disney Princess lover in your home?! I sure do.  We can’t get enough of the sparkling legends and this game was the perfect addition to our ever-growing princess collection : )  Honestly, we have not even mastered playing by the rules just yet because my children both love the “posting/pushing” type of activity embedded in the game; they need to stack the cake, the icing, and the topper for each cupcake and while there are princess cards to match and follow, we are still just spending a whole lot of time finding new ways to mix and match our cupcake creations! My son likes to put them all in his bowl near our play kitchen and my daughter spreads them all out on our cookie sheets for her “parties.”  When they get a little bit older, I can try a bit harder to explain “how to play” the game, but for now all the goodies that came inside this box has offered tons of fun and #invitationstoplay! Always a win in my book—sometimes it can be worthwhile to break the rules a bit anyway, right?

RICHARD SCARRY’S BUSYTOWN EYE FOUND IT!

Want a game that can get the whole family involved?  If you have kids that like to move around when they are playing games and if you are fans of any version of the well-known game “I Spy,” then I think you’ll surely get some good quality family game time out of this one.  With the board itself being over 6 ft. long, kids can move their pieces (and their bodies) all around the farm, the harbor, airport and city as they work together to find all of the hidden objects placed throughout!  The rules of the game promote communication, team-work, and collaboration, but with that said, it is also super fun to just hunt for the hidden pictures with the miniature magnifying glasses!  This makes the game enjoyable for even the littlest (and oldest) ones at home!

I hope you found this helpful! Check out @ravensburgerglobal and @brioplay for more ideas and activities!
