I Spent An Hour With a Friend Today

I spent an hour with a friend and her children today—an hour I didn’t realize how much I needed until it was over.

It was already one of those days for both of us so we took our children to the park very early in the morning.

We helped them on the slides, we pushed them on the swings, and we watched them build a sand castle...while we talked about all the things.

When we parted ways for the day, I felt such genuine gratitude for the time spent with them that I almost cried..

You see,

It’s not every day a mom gets to feel comfortable around another mom when their children are playing together.

It’s not every day a mom gets to feel accepted and free from judgement around another mom when they meet for a play date.

It’s not every day a mom gets to feel supported and to receive encouragement from another mom on the playground.

It’s not every day a mom gets to feel like she’s enjoying her kids’ day out just much as they are.

But, today—in that hour— I did get to feel all of those things, and so, I am grateful.

You see,

to be in the company of another woman who not only “gets it” but “gets you” is quite a gift.

To be in the company of another woman who accepts you just as you are is always a special thing.

But if she does all of this AND loves your children just as they are, too...

well, that is simply the best.
